Books & Written Words Provide Comfort

Books & Written Words Provide Comfort

Books can be the most comforting gift for someone who is going through a hard time. Whether they need some form of escapism, something to relate to, something to give them hope, or even just something to keep them entertained, a book can provide that love and support.

Sometimes we fail to find the words that can give someone the comfort that they need. If a loved one is experiencing something that you can’t relate to or begin to understand, there is definitely a book out there that can. For example, our In Loving Memory book. Often, we can’t even find the words to express the feeling overflowing in our hearts. This beautiful book of quotations is a gift that brings care and compassion for today and hope and healing for tomorrow. Another way to provide support is through This is How you Heal by Brianna Wiest. It contains 45+ new pieces from best selling author Brianna Wiest that will help you find your inner sanctum and embark on the path of true transformation. Or All That You Deserve by Jacqueline Whitney, a hardcover poetry book that can provide immense support to someone coping with depression; “More than anything, know that you deserve to be here, now. The world would never be the same without you.” Another option that helps inspire anyone no matter what they are going through is the poetry and prose book The Strength In Our Scars by Bianca Sparacino. This collection gives the reader the compassionate encouragement you would expect from someone who knows exactly what you are going through. Any of these options can give the comfort of understanding even when you can’t.

Or, if you or your loved one needs an escape from reality and to focus on something other than your current situation, any work of fiction can help you do just that. According to a study by the University of Sussex, “Reading can be a way to escape from reality and enter a new world. This can help lower cortisol levels, a primary stress hormone, and reduce stress by up to 68%. Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles.” The perfect gift for someone who may be in the hospital, grieving, or just needs a break from their hectic life. A good book paired with Taylor Lee’s Soothing Lavender Eye Pillow or our Sweet Vanilla + Oat Milk Calming Bath Soak, you can give your loved one the gift of letting go of the day and entering a world of comfort and relaxation.

Taylor Lee Comfort also has a wide variety of notebooks and guided journals that can let your loved one express themselves in a creative and fulfilling way, beyond just reading a book. Something as simple as our Her Words soft cover journal, can provide inspiration for expression. The beautiful watercolor cover and the words ‘I write myself a new world, full of wonder and potential. And every word is true,” inspire hope every time your loved one opens the journal. Guided journals can also be helpful for someone who doesn’t know exactly what they want to write about. It also keeps consistency, improving the mindset of your loved one everyday they use it. One example is our Gratitude Journal, which allows a guided space to think about all that you are grateful for in life, helping you find joy in the present. We also have a number of devotionals and scripture journaling books available, including Take Heart: A 90 Day Devotional. For those who are weary, anxious, and overwhelmed. Each day includes a passage of scripture, a prayer prompt, and a short devotional designed to bring encouragement from God’s Word. One other option is All Things New, which helps readers pray through passages of scripture and be equipped with tools to pray the Word of God. Similarly, see For Grief and Loss praying scripture journal. Any form of writing can help a loved one struggling to get their thoughts together and see things from a new and organized perspective. Pair with a pretty pen to add some sparkle into your loved ones daily routine to top your gift.

Literature can provide understanding and comfort in so many different ways, and is an incredibly thoughtful way to comfort your loved ones no matter what they are going through. Add a book or journal to your comfort kit next time you shop with us!
